A Bat Mitzvah (for girls) and Bar Mitzvah (for boys) are Jewish coming of age ceremonies marking the transition to adulthood at age 12 for girls and 13 for boys. It signifies responsibility for one’s actions, and the ability to participate in ritual law. Celebrations, usually on Shabbat, involve Torah reading and a party, requiring respectful attire.
